Formed in 1986 The HAND Partnership (HAND=Help And Advice for Norfolk Disabled) began by helping with completing complex forms for various benefits, moving on to undertaking Appeals and Tribunals across norfolk.

In late 1980's we established NDIS (Norfolk Disability Information Service) and then were asked to pilot and implement the 1996 Direct Payments Act which is now used country wide.

In 1997 we undertook a survey of how we could address the problem associated with social exclusion which touches many peoples lives and not just in the more rural areas of the county.

The results showed a real and unmet need for a facility to provide advice and assistance in accessing electric scooters and wheelchairs. Which was not directly related to the need to make a profit

From those long gone days we have become one of the only not-for-profit /social enterprises to be pro-active in the supply and maintenance of all types of mobility equipment.

We can supply and maintain most types of equipment and have a close working relationship with other specialists as far as adaptations and modifications are concerned (motor vehicles).

All of our dedicated staff have first hand experience of disability matters and are able to offer free, unbiased advise and to research new ideas/problems to do with disability.

We established what was the first scooter hire scheme 10 years ago- it is flexible and sensitive to changing needs and unlike the 'Mobility scheme' does not tie you into a 3 or 5 year contract.

Short term hire is available for those recovering from surgery or accidents and long term for those on fixed incomes and offers real 'peace of mind' with fixed monthly payments(which haven't increased in the last 8 years) and the ability to change to a bigger or smaller scooter as your situation changes-(some people hire for the summer months)

Our hirer age group ranges from 3 years to 100 years (2 clients at present are 100 years old!!!!)

We are very proactive rather than reactive in advising on suitable vehicles-scooters-wheelchairs with the aim of saving you money and stress and giving real peace of mind.

We work closely with many other national charities such as British Red Cross, The M.S Society, O/t's and physio's plus many others
